Differently abled, not disabled: supporting Autism Awareness

It can be tremendously difficult and distressing for a parent to find that their child has been diagnosed with a developmental handicap. Families must learn to manage the new problems and obligations that come with having a loved one on the spectrum during this time. Aside from the emotional toll, families caring for special needs children sometimes face financial difficulties.

We at The O’Donohoe Agency want to relieve families of any additional worry during these trying times. We wish to focus our efforts on raising awareness and fighting for the special needs of our community’s most vulnerable residents. This is why, at our agency, we support the efforts of local groups dedicated to assisting people with Autism.

We think that everyone deserves an equal chance to grow and attain their full potential, as well as to live a high-quality life free of discrimination and bigotry. Many misconceptions about intellectual disability have led to a distorted understanding of what it’s like to be on the spectrum.
